Excellent portable DAC

This is an excellent dongle DAC. Despite its small size, power output is very impressive and was able to drive just about any headphone or IEM I tested. Both 3.5 and balanced outputs are available, a big plus in my opinion. The device is easily portable, and works fine with multiple sources I tried - smartphones, tablets, PCs all had no issue. A USB-C to USB-C cable is provided, you’ll need a USB-C to A if you only have USB-A ports. There’s no gain control, just volume - which may be disappointing to some but I didn’t really find this to be a problem considering its intended use.

As I’ve said, power output is impressive - I never felt like I couldn’t get sufficient volume out of my gear. Sound quality is also very pleasing. I find the DAC leans a tad bit warm in terms of sound profile, not something I can be certain of but overall I found it to be a rather neutral presentation. Treble might feel a bit smooth on certain gear, but never harsh. I prefer it that way.

Now, obviously this isn’t going to give you the output of larger desktop DACs - but considering its size and portability, still impressive. I was able to crank it to hearing-loss levels. Even on a smartphone, I never needed to really push the volume much. On some gear, pushing the volume too high did expose some harshness in mids and treble that higher end DACs handle fine. I can’t imagine anyone really doing that to their ears though.

For those looking for a step up from regular dongles, the D10 is a great choice. I can’t compare it to many other similarly priced dongles, but it’s definitely good value for those looking for a little more without having to use a hefty device. Lack of gain control may be a con, but looking at the intended use of the device as a dongle, I won’t knock it. Some will find it a bit pricey considering its size. As someone looking to get a bit more kick out of my IEM or headphones while on the move, I find it good value.
